Eagle Solar & Light is Sam’s 2nd Renewable Startup, having co-founded VSP Solar in November 2015.

With an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering Degree (Vanderbilt University) and an MBA (Darden School of Business-UVA) Sam has extensive experience in co-owning and operating a closely held, vertically integrated, group of industrial companies in Talladega, AL, including various ‘C’ level positions – CEO and CFO. Currently Sam serves as Chairman of the Board of Talladega Castings & Machine Co., Inc, and is a member of the Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce.

Sam brings a proven approach of organizational management, leadership, financial acumen, and commitment to the Renewable Energy sector. Given the nominal penetration of Photovoltaic Energy in the central part of our state, he is successfully building an organized, capable and passionate team!

Richard Lewis, Jr was raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended The University of Alabama in pursuit of a marketing business degree and a specialization in consumer sciences.

Richard has about 5 years of experience in product development and product marketing for his family’s company, Lewis Products Inc. that specializes outdoor sportsman safety. He has extensive work in brand advertising for their outdoor safety products called “Hunter Rescue” and “Rescue Step”. Richard has traveled around the Southeast and the Atlantic coast working with trade shows and smaller niche stores.

Immediately after college, Richard moved to very small town called Hyattville, Wyoming where he worked on over 100,000 acres of pasture land and over a million acres of BLM land in the Big Horn Mountain Range. There he managed countless responsibilities in extreme conditions working for a large cattle company. Richard then moved back to Alabama where he looked to use his skills in both business and electrical/mechanical sciences. He now looks forward to building the solar industry in the state of Alabama with Eagle Solar and Light.

Drawn to renewable resources and innovation, Robert Hanson joined the board of the Alabama Environmental Council and brings 15 years of business leadership and community development experience to Eagle Solar and Light.

A Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, he served as an Environmental and Business Consultant in Romania for three years and as a Micro-Enterprise Loan Consultant for start-up businesses in Oregon. His work in Alabama as a loan officer, housing counselor and asset building professional blends both public and private sector experience. As a Program Director for a state-wide organization, he was a strategic convener for public and private partners to develop shared goals and strategies and worked in conjunction with other asset building organizations across the south-east to improve existing and create new socio-economic opportunities.

Robert has a Masters of Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a B.A from Baylor University and was a Peace Corps Fellow at the University of Oregon. His education also includes Conflict Resolution/Mediation training from the Peace Action Training and Research Institute of Romania in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Joe Bennett started his operations career at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, directing all of guest service operations for the museum. After a distinguished career in Huntsville, Joe moved to Birmingham to be key player in the sales operations for Sonics Associates, a subsidiary of the Imax Corporation. As the director of sales for Sonics Associates, Joe developed sales systems and product management programs for a global industry of institutional motion picture venues. Still working on a global stage, Joe joined Oxmoor Corporation as the VP of marketing and sales, where he directed the sales operations and product management for professional audio and consumer electronics products. Oxmoor Corporation later created a spin-off company, Twist Technology, LLC, and tapped Joe to be their director of operations. At Twist, Joe was responsible for the implementation and service of design-built AV systems for both commercial and residential consumers.

Today, Joe brings over 23 years of successful management, sales and operations experience to Eagle Solar and Light, as well as a wealth of applied knowledge gained by working side-by-side with some of the nation’s largest and best custom electronics integrators and general contractors.

 

 

Michael J. Churchman

Michael Churchman brings hands-on experience in working for local and national non-profit community organizations and small business operational experience. Working in three different states, Michael excelled in roles with the Boy Scouts of America where he led efforts in fund-raising, youth and adult recruiting, leader training and programs, and expansion of quality Scouting experiences. He also gained valuable experience as operations director for a start-up small business in the Birmingham area, managed a large inventory and equipment maintenance, scheduled and tracked deliveries, and provided customer service to clients.

For the last 9 years, Michael was Executive Director of the Alabama Environmental Council. While there, he expanded recycling programs for the Council as well as across Jefferson County, and founded and expanded the energy policy work for the Council. He brings connections to advocacy across the Southeast in the energy policy arena, while also developing hands-on experience of installing and bringing a small photo-voltaic generation system operational.

His addition to the team helps to bridge the energy policy arena with the practical application of expanding clean energy across our service-area.

Elizabeth Scribner has a BA from Princeton University in History and Environmental Studies, an MS in Mathematics from the UAB, and is anticipating her PhD in Mathematics from UAB in December, 2016. She and her husband enjoy a 6.8 kW off-grid solar system at their home in Birmingham, and are passionate about renewable energy. She has 3 years of teaching experience at the Mountain Brook Junior High in Mathematics, and is currently teaching Calculus at UAB and taught at Birmingham Southern College as part of her fellowship.

She has authored and co-authored several publications, including most recently, ‘The Modeling of Regulatory Networks: theory and application of the Drosophila circadian network.”

Elizabeth co-develops strategic direction and product line growth for ESL through the analysis of new and complimentary technology coming onto the market as well as doing educational outreach for Eagle Solar and Light. Contact Elizabeth today to schedule a presentation.
