Village Living: Crestline Resident Commits to Harness Sun

One Mountain Brook residence can now harness the power of the sun.

In mid-September, Samuel Yates made city history when he installed Mountain Brook’s first ground-mounted solar energy power system at his home on Lake Drive in Crestline. Yates said the 40-module, 12,000-watt system can generate about 40 percent of his home’s energy during daylight hours.

“The recommendation is to always invest in solar. Buy one. You need one for your house,” Yates said with a chuckle. “I say that tongue in cheek.”

New solar lighting installed at Red Mountain Park

New solar lighting has been installed at Red Mountain Park, just in time for Halloween events this weekend.

Birmingham-based company, Eagle Solar & Light has installed and contributed a brand new solar lighting system for Red Mountain Park. The donation has made possible the illumination of the Park’s 80-foot tall Kaul Adventure Tower.

Red Mountain Park guests can zip line, rappel and climb at night during special after-hours events. The lighting system is made up of ActiveLED Solar Lights and Solar Lighting Controls, PV solar panels and batteries. (more…)

Visit UAB’s Recreation Center on Solar Home Tour

Views of the solar array will be available from the top of the Ryals Parking Deck, located directly across 16th Street from Recreation Center. A green Facilities will be set up to receive visitors.
